Pine State Amateur Radio Club Honors Local Leaders: Jeff Hanscom (KA1DBE) and Ed Paradis (WI1Z)
The amateur radio community thrives on leadership, mentorship, and a shared passion for airwave experimentation. At a recent meeting of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club, two outstanding operators were officially recognized for their contributions to ham radio across the state of Maine.

Jeff Hanscom (KA1DBE) was named the 2026 Maine Ham of the Year. Serving as an Assistant Section Manager for the ARRL Maine Section, Jeff has been a cornerstone of local ham radio activities. Whether organizing statewide Parks on the Air (POTA) activations, giving technical presentations on satellite tracking, or helping candidates earn their licenses as a Volunteer Examiner, his enthusiasm continues to draw new operators into the hobby.
In addition, Ed Paradis (WI1Z) received The Maine Section Leadership Award. As President of the Pine State Amateur Radio Club (N1ME), Ed has played a crucial role in building community engagement, fostering technical growth, and coordinating club events that keep operators connected.
Both honors celebrate individuals whose dedication and guidance strengthen the hobby for everyone. Congratulations to Jeff and Ed for inspiring fellow hams and keeping the spirit of amateur radio strong throughout Maine!
